International Human Rights Standards

The right to social protest is a pillar of democratic societies and is closely linked to freedom of expression and assembly. In Colombia and other countries, a constant tension persists between protest and State repression, despite its legal recognition in every country where violations of this right occur.

It includes a comparative study of seven countries, some marked by ocular violence and punitive practices against demonstrators. Finally, it identifies trends aimed at restricting protest and proposes recommendations for its defense and strengthening.
