Methodology
Our research team is made up of people who are victims of ocular violence in Colombia. This is why our work carries weight: the research we conduct has a specific experiential dimension that ensures our findings and conclusions are guided by the reality of what victims of ocular violence feel.
Our research approach is hermeneutic, as we seek to understand the needs of the victims, their feelings following the events that took place, and their modes of resistance built on organizing and their everyday struggle.
We approach the data through different sources:
- Texts by human rights defenders
- Accounts from victims/survivors of ocular violence
- Forms of resistance of victims of ocular violence
- Texts from international human rights organizations
- Government texts related to the legal framework governing police action (regulations)
- Documentary videos by human rights defenders
- Statistical analyses of human rights violations
- Analysis of LLW (less-lethal weapons).
Drawing on these inputs, we produce audiovisual materials and reports that make it possible to demonstrate the systematic nature of ocular violence internationally, in order to advance our objective of completely eradicating this type of human rights violation.
